Everyone has skin, and it’s honestly quite annoying.
It takes a lot of maintenance but not too much maintenance.
It needs to be washed, it can get burned, it’s itchy sometimes.
Skin is also beautiful.
It’s the guy that protects all your insides from coming out and bad guys from getting in. We get to touch the ones we cherish with our skin, and feel their warmth and love. We get to love ourselves, through caring for our skin.
It’s also, unfortunately, what you’re judged on within 7-11 seconds of meeting another person.
Having healthy balanced skin is the goal but to get there you must embark on a journey, and oh is it a journey.
Skin takes times and faith, as it has a lot of components. It can takes years to correct.
But do not fear because it’s really very simple!
Although, there’s a lot we can’t control about our skin, there’s a lot we can.
Did you know you have a skin type?
It’s pretty cool because once you find out what it is, you can determine what types of products will benefit you.
Skincare is extremely personal. Each ingredient affects each person differently.
Learning to identify your skin type will help you formulate your best skin care treatment plan.
Although this is usually accomplished in a treatment room with an esthetician or dermatologist, we can establish what our general skin type is at home.
Through this series, we’ll learn everything we need to know to determine what our skin type is.
The skincare industry is basically the wild west, and we have to remember that our skin is a live organ. It is heavily affected by what we put on top of it, and what we put inside of it, as well as how we think.
A balanced healthy skin will result in smooth texture and luminosity, as well as, prevent breakouts and blemishes.
In the treatment room, there are two categories that the skin is classified into. The first is your genetic skin type. This is what you are born with, and is determined by your familial genetics and hormones. You can thank your parents and ancestors for this one. Your genetic skin type typically does not change. However, during times of intense hormonal changes, the skin type can change. Skin can be like wild west too.
This segment will establish what the four skin types are.
Honestly, I want to spitfire all this information out like a scientist writing a paper but it read a bit like an old crumbly biscuit.
So segments it is.
This guide will help you determine your genetic skin type.
We will then deep dive into skin conditions, as these can be more complicated.
Skin type is based on how much oil is produced in the follicle.
What the heck is a follicle you ask. The follicle is also considered to be the pore.
Skin type is also determined by the amount of lipids found between the cells. Lipids are basically the nice, bouncy cement sticking all our skin cells together.
There are four skin types. So now, we’re going to read through each description and see what relates most closely to your skin. If it’s hard to tell, take a few days and begin to notice the texture of your skin, and how it looks throughout the day.
